The Lokal

Honest comfort food all day – That’s what Lokal is all about. Located at the edge of Chinatown, this café transits to a restaurant-bar at night. Most of the ingredients are made in-house like butter, jams, ketchup, sriracha, kaya and even roasting, curing and smoking processes like smoked salmon and mackerel over cherry-apple wood chips, roasted kampong chicken and dry cured bacon.

The Lokal serves healthy dishes like Roast Pumpkin Salad, Kale Salad, Lokal Ricotta with Smashed Avocado on Toast, as well as heartier dishes like Lobster Rolls and Beef Burgers for brunch and then slowly transits into a cozy and versatile space for intimate dinners and casual cocktails sessions with comfort food such as Steak Frites, Catch of the Day and Grilled Pork Chop.

Head Chef/Owner

Prominently known by his Instagram followers as ‘fuzzychef’, is the chef-owner of The Lokal Singapore. Back in Sydney, Darren used to work for celebrity chef Tetsuya Wakuda at his eponymous restaurant – Tetsuya’s. In 1992, Darren moved to Singapore to craft the menu for Harry’s Bar in Boat Quay and was exposed to the food scene in Singapore. He went on to continue his culinary adventure at various restaurants across London for Sir Terrence Conran and in Hong Kong as well.
